Life is Ever Changing

I mean, I knew that. Really, I did. But SO much has changed since September. And it all started with a statement made by my coworkers on Monday, October 3, 2011. I had spent part of the weekend before that work week up in PA with my family and had eaten all kinds of different foods that my body was no longer used to. GOOD food, but not necessarily healthy food. So it wasn't any surprise to me that I wasn't feeling quite up to par on Monday morning. Then, as I was talking to Catherine (a close coworker), Kim (our office manager) walked up to join the conversation. And I almost immediately felt sick to my stomach and started dry heaving. Grabbed for my trash can, but thankfully didn't need it. Take one Wild guess at what that statement was. Go ahead..You might be right. Kim looked at me and said...."You're pregnant." "No, I'm not," I replied "I think I just ate something funky up in PA this weekend."
   "Nope. You're pregnant." Kim declared.

Well, knowing my body and how out of whack it has always been, I keep pregnancy tests on hand at home. So when my alarm went off Tuesday morning (Oct. 4th), I took a test. And sat in my bathroom for the next fifteen minutes bawling my eyes out.

I've taken pregnancy test many times before. My period is almost non-existent so I keep those test "just in case". They've always taken a full minute to show the negative sign. But not this morning. On October 4, 2011, it took less than five seconds for that test to show as positive. I was pregnant. And in shock.

I just spent the last 4 months working out, eating right, and losing 34 lbs. And now...I was pregnant. That meant weight gain. Life change. A Baby! I didn't know what to do other than sit in my bathroom and cry. I was elated...I was going to have a baby. I was devastated...I was going to gain all the weight that I had worked so hard to lose...right back. I wanted to talk to Joseph...but he was still asleep and is never fond of being woken up before his alarm. Finally, I stopped crying and went through all the motions that it took to get ready for another day of work. Finished in the bathroom, I took the dogs downstairs to let them outside, and I called my mom.

Of course, it was only 4:30 in the morning so she didn't answer. Her cell phone was turned off. So was the house phone. I had to call my younger sister. Only she didn't answer, her voicemail did. Then she called back, because her phone had woke my mom and my mom woke her up to call me back. In tears, and barely understandable, I told my mom that I was pregnant. She congratulated me, then because she couldn't understand me through my tears, handed the phone back to Rachel and went back to bed. Really, Mom!?! So I had to share my elation and mostly my fears with my sister, finally calming down after Rachel stated, "Hannah, if God is giving you this baby now then He must believe you're ready to be a mother. He knows best."

After Joseph woke up, I did share the news with him albeit still in a slightly hysterical way. (Since I had had time to work myself up again.) He decided I wasn't fit to work and made me call off sick. Joseph did the same and we actually spent a very nice day together getting used to the idea.

Wednesday found me at my doctor's office for an appointment just to confirm the pregnancy. Not like that was hard. After two positive home tests...I was pretty sure it was for real.

This coming Sunday will make it two months that I've known about my baby and I can't even begin to explain the changes I've already gone through mentally. I still think some days that I'm not quite ready to be a mom, but when that happens I just remind myself that I still have 5 months to go before the baby will be here. I remind myself that God DOES know what's best for me. That He is in control and He's not going to give me any more than I can handle. I'm so excited about my baby now. I can't wait to meet him/her. So, until that day, I'm calling him Squishie. Makes it easier than calling the baby an "it" since I don't know the sex yet. Joseph does want to find out, so that announcement will be coming, but until then...Squishie will remain my baby without a color. Though...I just have to say...if Squishie's a girl....I really don't want alot of pink. Like...at all!

Off the Beaten Path

Obviously I've been posting alot about books lately, but I wanted to take a few minutes to write a post about something else. To give you a little idea of what I've been up to lately other than reading.

Joseph had 11 days off for Christmas and New Year's vacation this holiday season. (I wanted to say year, but since Christmas was 2009 and New Years was 2010...yeah. you get the point.) Anyway, he put his time off work to wonderful use. He and his dad (well, mostly his dad) spent about five days painting the main floor of my house. Yay for color! I'll have pictures of the rooms that were painted very soon. I didn't have anything to do with the painting, but I sure did have a hand in the cleanup.

Also, last Sunday Joseph and I started a 1500 piece puzzle that we (I) just finished on Friday night. I'll post a picture of that for your viewing pleasure.

Of course, I've been reading. I just finished my 13th book last night.

Oh yes, about the cleanup part of painting. I kinda extended that cleanup into taking down all the Christmas stuff that was still lingering around my home. I even have the scratches on my arms to prove it. Did you know that Christmas trees are worse than cats!?! The other room that I cleaned was my office. Actually, I didn't just clean it; I revamped it. My desk got moved. Joseph added some more shelves for my Mary Kay stuff. I sorted through magazines, books, and TONS of loose papers. and now...it looks beautiful! It's still not quite finished, but at least I can handle going in there to work again.

On the to do list for this week:
Inventory my Mary Kay products
Clean out my closet in my bedroom
Shampoo the carpet in my bedroom
Start sending in payments for my Sentria
Scrub down my kitchen
and hopefully Make a few meals in advance that I can freeze or at least store for later in the fridge.

That's not much at all, right? I have to admit this is HUGE for me. I can't remember the last time I've been motivated to get things done for more than two days in a row. This has been going on since January 1st and I LIKE it! Wish me luck.

Welcome to November

Okay, so I realize that I've pretty much only written once a month for the majority of this year. What a lousy blogger I've turned out to be this time around. Oh well, Life happens. :-)

November is my birthday month. You might remember that from last year when I started this blog. I'll be 26 in 7 days. Weird. I'm only 4 years from being 30 years old, but I don't really FEEL any older than I did two years ago. Then again, I suppose I do because I do occasionally visit my parents home in Pennsylvania and when I do, I realize how much I've changed since I got married and moved to Virginia.

For example, I went home to PA on October 23rd for the weekend. While my parents home is still home to me, I did feel like I was out of place. I've never been the perfect daughter, but it was still odd to me that I am more willing to help my mom out now than I'd ever been while I still lived at home. (Epiphany! So THAT'S what's going on!....I'll have to explain that later. I will explain it though, I promise.) I suppose it's because I have a house of my own to run with three extra roommates that I understand more that there really IS that much work to do in even a very small house. There's always something that CAN be cleaned up, washed, or done. Unlike my mom, though, I don't feel driven to constantly be doing something in my own home. But I know my mom is MUCH more of a clean freak than I will ever be. So I do try my best to follow the rules that were laid down in my parents home when I was growing up. An example: the dishes get washed after each meal. My parents home is so small that even the smallest amount of clutter makes it seems even tinier. I sincerely dislike doing dishes; especially since I am the only pot-washer in my own home, however, I tend to be more willing to do dishes at my parents home now that I understand what my mom has always done for us. Please bear with me...I know I'm kinda rambling. I never really thought this through before and this is my thought process as I'm thinking it. (aren't you glad you can't get lost in a person's head? ya'll would go mad if you had to think like me for any length of time!)

Anyway, all that to say...I think I'm finally growing up. So much for being Peter Pan. I suppose my Definition still hasn't completely changed, but I can tell you that it is being revamped every day anymore. I think I like what it's turning into, but I'll have to get back to you on that one too.

Was there a specific time that you realized YOU were growing up?

Blondie

That's my new nickname at work. Why? Because I dyed my hair Bleach Blonde. At first I wasn't sure what I thought of the color, but now I LOVE it. I don't think I could have pulled the color off without the cut, but it works and I have gotten so many compliments on the cut and the color!

Anyway, I needed a picture to send to my Mary Kay director so Joseph took the first three for that purpose. The last pic is just me goofing off. So, should I send Jeannie (my MK director) shot 1, shot 2, or shot 3?

Self portrait. LOL.

My Blog Title

I've been thinking more and more lately over the past week or so about what my blog title means to me and how it plays into what I write on this blog. I don't want to back myself into a tiny corner of possible subjects to write about just because of my blog title, but I don't want to go so far off base that people start wondering why I ever chose the title I did. (I suppose I could always change it again if things start to change, but I'd rather not.)

All that to say...just writing on here is a change for me. I use to have a blog before until someone started leaving VERY disturbing comments which prompted my husband to tell me to delete that blog and not to blog again. While I suspect that I know who was leaving those comments, there is no way for me to know for sure anymore. I suppose at some point I may write a post about what exactly happened, but this is not that post.

Another way that writing on here is a change for me is that I used to write daily in journals while in college. In fact, there were many days where I wrote up to ten times. It was all nonsense, but it was me at that time. Reading back through my journals, I have begun to realize why I had more guy friends than girl friends. I wanted to hang out and have fun more than I wanted to open up to anyone other than my very few select girl friends. Writing this blog opens me up to people I don't even know. Scary thought, but at the same time, it is very relieving. I don't have to hide me anymore. I really am a dork. I really am unconfident.

Now, if my posts from now on seem to go too far out of line and start to bore ya'll, please let me know. I really wanted to write a blog that would entertain people, but so far it has almost turned into a therapy session for me instead. Maybe you just have to know me to laugh at what I write. (not saying you don't laugh already, but I do know that sometimes my sense of humor is VERY twisted.)

Are you still reading? Wow! I'm impressed! I almost lost mySELF in all that dribble.

Let me now apologize for my rambling. I'm sorry I dragged you through all of that, but I had to get it off my chest. Now, let's see if my following posts can be more lighthearted and upbeat.

Changing a few things around

I haven't changed anything in my life so far for this post as much as Joseph has changed up our house. First is our Family room. The second blue recliner is no longer in the corner in front of the DVD shelves.

Next the morning room: Joseph turned the table sideways and added the chaise.

Oh! and we started decorating for Christmas. Yes, I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet, but we'll be out of town for Thanksgiving so that cuts back on our time to decorate. This is right inside our front door. Do you like the tree at the top? That was Titus' and my idea. The garland will light up too once we finish it up and get an extension cord.

Then, my front room. The chaise was moved out of the front window and the tree was put up there instead. And, of course, the blue recliner came out of the family room.

So, thanks, for joining me on a mini tour of a few rooms of my house. I'll post more pictures as we continue to decorate for Christmas.
