Yet Another New Favorite

At the beginning of May I was wondering around You Tube looking for music videos of Naruto music. Which I found. But, then, on the side I noticed a video for a song called Ring Ding Dong by SHINee. First, I was like, "SHINee. Really.?. What a name!!" But I decided to click on it anyway. And the world of Korean music opened up. I learned about DBSK. Big Bang. 2NE1. 2PM. 2AM. and many, many others. It didn't take long for me to create a new playlist on You Tube that was just Korean music. I completely understand that I CAN'T understand the music, but you know, that doesn't bother me. I understand the Feeling behind the music. And that enough for me.

My favorite Korean group is Super Junior. They are comprised of 13 young men. Yes. 13! Their music ranges from happy, bouncy to slow, and heartfelt. There's a few that have some pretty strong driving beats that can be kinda dangerous to drive to, but they're fun! Don't worry. I'll share my favorite video with you in just a minute. And you can then proceed to tell me that I'm crazy for listening to these guys. and I'll agree with you, then continue listening anyway. :-)

Eclectic Tastes

When I first started working at my current job, all of the offices but one were always quiet. The top Vice President at the time used to listen to classical and jazz music on his radio every morning. Since music is a huge part of my life I asked my direct boss if I could listen to music while I was working too. After receiving permission to do so, I invested in a pair of ear buds. As long as I only used one I was allowed to wear them. One ear always had to be free to hear what everyone around me was saying. It was at that point that I discovered Pandora.com. It's kinda funny thinking about how new it was when I found it. Anyway, I always knew my music tastes were rather eclectic, but never really thought about that fact until last month. See, my Pandora radio has 6 different stations. For about a week last month I listened to my music without my ear buds so that my office mates could enjoy my music too. After two days of classical, one day of 1950's, and one day of OLD (like Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby old), I switched to my country radio. Jen, my newest office mate turned to me and said, "Wow. You're rather eclectic, aren't you?" Not really thinking about it I asked what she meant and she pointed out what we had all listened to that week that I had turned on. Ah, gotcha.

You may think me odd, liking the music that I do, but it's the variety in life that makes living worth while. The only part about eclectic tastes that could be a little annoying is when I tell someone that I really like the song playing over the sound system in a store and the person looks at me like I'm crazy. For example, I was picking up dry cleaning last week and Nat King Cole was singing on the radio or CD they had playing. I told the little old Asian lady that runs the store that I really love his music and she looked at me funny while saying, "This is OLD music." Did she think I was kidding? I could name half a dozen songs that Nat King Cole sang just off the top of my head. I suppose that older people expect young adults and kids to know who AC/DC is anymore, but not Rosemary Clooney.

To Teach or Not to Teach...

THAT is the question!

Yesterday, at one of my neighbours' son's birthday party, another neighbour asked me if I would consider teaching her son and her daughter piano lessons. THEN...today, my mother-in-law told me she had been thinking about asking me to teach HER! So, do I do it? Should I venture into piano lessons? I already have a 9 1/2 hour a day job on top of my new Mary Kay business. I mean, yes, I did go to college for music and my degree was specifically geared towards teaching music and choir directing, but am I ready for this? Can I handle THREE jobs!?! I'm confused, excited, and scared all at one time. I know this isn't really such a big decision, but I think at the same time, if I agree to teaching three people piano lessons, it could very quickly become a much larger number due to the demand for piano teachers in this area. (I know you're thinking, at that admission, "Hannah! If teachers are needed in the area...what are you waiting for!?!") I know, I know, but I'm already pulling my hair out trying to figure out how I'm going to fit my Mary Kay business into my life right now....where in the world am I going to find time for piano lessons too??

Advice anyone? I'm open to almost anything at this point!
